Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited Update

TORONTO, Jan. 13 /CNW/ - Toronto Hydro-Electric System Limited (Toronto
Hydro) deeply regrets the death of a dog on Keele Street near Annette at 2
a.m. today. Toronto Hydro crews were immediately dispatched and the area has
been sectioned off and power to the pole has been disconnected.
Toronto Hydro is conducting a thorough investigation to determine the
cause. Crews are testing overhead and underground structures in the area.
Toronto Hydro had begun a city-wide inspection to identify whether or not
other stray voltage problems exist on the distribution system. In 2007,
Toronto Hydro also launched a $1.3 B infrastructure renewal program across the
City.
This inspection includes taking infrared readings to detect stray
voltage, as well as visual inspections of our equipment.
The investigation, and the safety of our distribution system, are the top
priority. The cause of today's accident has not been determined.
At this time, there does not appear to be a connection between this
accident and an accident that occurred in November 2008 in the same area.
Again, Toronto Hydro expresses its deepest sympathy to the pet owner.
